Shillong
Capital city of Meghalaya, is a beautiful city with good climate and pleasing sightseeing spots. It is also the commercial and administrative hub of Meghalaya. Among the special features of Shillong are the many pleasant walks that one can undertake. Day-long picnics amidst smoky blue hills thick with pine and orchids, singing brooks and crashing waterfalls.
Leisurely days can be spent at the serene Ward's Lake and the landscaped Lady Hydari Park, which also has a mini zoo. The Lewduh market the biggest in North East is wonderful for a bit of local flavor. Shillong Peak (1965 m) about 10 kms from town offers breathtaking views of the city spread out against its glorious hill slopes. Sohpetbneng Peak, 20 kms away is also a great place to catch those spectacular views. Amongst the popular waterfalls close to town are Spread Eagle Falls (6 kms) and the Sweet Falls ( 8 km) in Happy Valley. There are also the Bishop Falls, Beadon Falls and the Elephant Falls (12 kms) to explore if you have time. Shillong has popular 18-hole golf course. The town is dotted with fine old churches of which the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christmas is most famed for its stained glass windows and lofty arch. The Butterfly Museum is worth visiting as it has an excellent collection of these winged beauties, many of which are facing extinction.

Cherrapunjee
Once world renowned for being the wettest place on earth.
Cherrapunjee is 54 kms from Shillong. The road is good and the drive scenic. Cherrapunjee is impressive with its gushing waterfalls and the deep gorges.
Cherrapunjee's oranges and honey are famous. Close to town are the glorious Nohsngithiang Falls, Dainthlen Falls, Nohkailikai Falls (World's fourth highest) and many smaller falls. Mawsynram, 55 kms near Cherrapunjee is the wettest place on Earth. It is also reputed for its stalagmite and stalactite caves.

Helicopter

By Rail
The nearest Railway station is the Guwhati Railway Station 103 kms from Shillong. On arrival at Guwhati Railway station walk over to the ASTC bus station. From here there is a choice of transport depending on ones needs.
By Road
Meghalaya Transport Corporation and Assam State Transport Corporation buses are available, frequently plying from Guwahati to Shillong.
